Edward W. Groves, Jr., 79, predeceased by parents Edward W. and Jeanne Lambdin Groves, aunts Amanda Groves and Emily Kress, and uncle Stanley Welch, all of Marietta, died peacefully at home in Burke, VA on May 28 after a brief time with lung cancer. Born in Atlanta, GA, Ed graduated in 1950 from the Citadel, Military College of SC and was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency, where he retired a senior officer in the Science and Technology Division 33 years later. His agency career included tours in Taiwan, Vietnam, Okinawa, South Korea, and Bangkok, along with numerous TDYs throughout the world. After retirement, he continued to consult for the government and military for ten years, mainly at Ft. Belvoir, VA. Ed is survived by his wife Patricia, of Burke, children Jeanne (Richard) Crowther, and Tricia (Scott) Wilson of Rochester, NY, Kathleen (Olaf) Jonasson, of Conway, SC, and James (Toi), of E. Rutherford, NJ., and seven grandchildren; Daniel, John, Patrick, Emily, Erik, Sophie and Sarah. Memorial Service and burial will take place at City Cemetery in Marietta, GA on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 3:00 pm. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory in Marietta.
