All-time series: Pebblebrook leads 25-11

Coming off of a 20-7 win over Lakeside-DeKalb last week, Osborne travels to Pebblebrook tonight looking for its second victory in the 2014 campaign, which would match last season’s total.

The Cardinals program has experienced difficult times the past four seasons, winning only seven total games during that span. Under new coach Byron McCall, the staff has relied on a group of veterans to ease the transition.

Senior running back Tra’ Wynn answered the call for Osborne last week, rushing for a team-high 78 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two touchdown passes in the victory.

“Tra’ understands what we’re trying to accomplish and can do well in any offense we have,” McCall said. “He’s part of a core group of players who have been through the thick and thin, but never given up.”

Working with a small roster of approximately 20 players with different after-school schedules, McCall has made adjustments preparing for Pebblebrook.

“Preparations have been tough, because we’re usually not sure who we’ll have at practice, because of academic tutoring and other activities,” he said. “We’ve tried to simplify things for the players and help them understand the game. We’ll have to execute on offense and make plays on defense to beat Pebblebrook.”

The Falcons are coming off of a 20-14 road defeat to Miller Grove in their season opener. Pebblebrook had a 14-7 halftime lead but it wasn’t able to seal the victory. In the loss, Jacob Burke had a touchdown pass, while Javion Lawson ran for an 85-yard touchdown.

“We didn’t play well and the heat affected us because we had about six kids playing both ways,” Falcons coach Tommy Macon said. “We also struggled in the kicking game. We’ll have to stop Osborne’s offense on third down and take advantage of what their defense gives us with our offensive line’s size and speed.”

Pebblebrook has won the last 11 contests between the two teams, with Osborne’s last victory coming in 1994.
