ACWORTH — Horizon Field will go into extra innings Friday night to kick off the seventh annual Covering the Bases fundraiser.

Starting at 7 p.m. and continuing over the next 24 hours, the event will feature a viewing of “The Lego Movie,” kickball, a cornhole tournament, a silent auction and an all-star game among its activities.

Braves Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Glavine will be at the field at 10 a.m. Saturday to sign autographs and throw the first pitch of the season.

Horizon Field is a synthetic, rubberized ball field where children with all types of disabilities can participate in recreational sports. A handicap accessible playground and concession stand is also on the property.

This fundraiser, put on by the Acworth Police Department, helps maintain the field and equipment. Money also goes toward programs such as a kickball league, soccer clinics, adult baseball leagues and adaptive tennis. It has raised about $130,000 to date, according to Capt. Mark Cheatham with Acworth police.
