The Civil War Round Table of Cobb County will have award-winning Civil War historian Eric J. Wittenberg of Columbus, Ohio, discuss “Little Phil: A Reassessment of the Civil War Generalship of Philip H. Sheridan” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the KSU Center, 3333 Busbee Drive in Kennesaw.

Sheridan generally ranks among the pantheon of Union greats from the Civil War. Wittenberg will focus in his lecture on how Gen. Sheridan’s accomplishments, combined with the flaws of his character, do not warrant the reputation he enjoys.

Wittenberg, a native of southeastern Pennsylvania, graduated from Dickinson College and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is a practicing attorney, the author of 18 books on the Civil War and considered an authority on the Civil War cavalry operations.
