SMYRNA — A Smyrna woman who was born when Theodore Roosevelt was president has just celebrated her 106th birthday.

Residents and staff at Delmar Gardens, a senior living community in Smyrna, threw Elizabeth Fisher a big celebration last week.

Fisher, an Atlanta native, was born in 1908 and has lived in the state her entire life. She said her birthday celebration was very special.

Staff and residents wore pink, her favorite color, and decorated the facility for her birthday party. Musicians, magicians and even monkeys came out to make her day special Friday.

Fisher said one of her earliest memories was a trained monkey performing at her fifth birthday party. She was all smiles as a monkey sat and played with her almost 100 years later.

When asked what the secret to a long life was, the former cashier laughed and said “keep on working.”

Lynn Farge, a longtime friend from Cobb, remembers how much Fisher enjoyed cooking.

“She would sell lunches to the community out of her home,” Farge said.

According to staff, Fisher enjoyed talking about anything and everything since she came to Delmar Gardens in 2002.
