The Senior Wellness Center, 1150 Powder Springs St. in Marietta, will have Radon Prevention for seniors ages 55-plus from 11 a.m. to noon on Sept. 9.

The second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S., behind tobacco, is related to radon. Nearly 22,000 deaths a year, 800 in Georgia, are caused by radon and its effects. Radon is a gas released from the soil that can easily enter homes through foundations and well water sources.

The Cobb County/UGA Cooperative Extension Services will teach simple steps to prevent becoming another radon related statistic. The event is free, but registration is required. Call (770) 528-5355.

Why is this just for seniors? Are my tax dollars paying for it? Once again government is catering to special interests with my and everyone else's money.
