Charity choices wrong role for Commission

DEAR EDITOR:

Once again the proposed Cobb FY2015 budget contains almost $1 million of contributions to the charities of the BoC’s choice. About the same as it was for FY2013 and FY 2014 budgets. I’m sure all the charities they have selected to give to are great organizations and do God’s work, but it’s not the BOCs role/function to make those contributions. Why can’t they just stick to their constitutional duties of public safety, land use and infrastructure, such as roads, water and sewers? All these other extracurricular activities they have decided to get involved in are just costing the taxpayers more money.

For once, I’d like to see a “laissezfaire” attitude taken by the BOC.
