Decosimo, a Top 100 regional public accounting and advisory firm, which has an office at 2839 Paces Ferry Road SE in the Cumberland area, announced Bill Acuff, the director of Forensic Accounting and Internal Audit Services, will be serving as a featured presenter during the 2014 Southeastern Accounting Show of Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, which will take place Aug. 27 and 28, at the Cobb Galleria Centre, 2 Galleria Parkway SE in the Cumberland area.

Acuff will be speaking on the second day of the event and his presentation, “Using Data Analytics to Detect Disbursements Fraud,” will examine today’s automated control environment, looking at the risks involved as organizations place more reliance on automated controls that can disguise fraud within vast amounts of data.

As part of his presentation, Acuff plans to discuss how the process of performing analytics on 100 percent of transactions has become one of the most effective strategies for companies to establish optimal protection against fraud. Acuff will also dissect today’s most prevalent fraud schemes and demonstrate how a company’s use of data analytics can lead to identifying the red flags of fraud.

A certified public accountant certified in financial forensics, Acuff has more than 30 years of experience in public accounting, providing assurance services, conducting investigations, providing litigation support, performing forensic business analyses and audits, leading outsourced internal audit services, evaluating internal control systems and conducting fraud risks assessments and training. He holds designations as a certified fraud examiner, a certified internal auditor and a chartered global management accountant.

Hosted by the GSCPA, the 2014 edition of the Southeastern Accounting Show will feature 60 different sessions focusing on a range of the key topics in the accounting profession today. The conference will offer attendees a variety of continuing professional education credits based on seven tracks of study each day. Taught by leaders in their respective fields, sessions offer continuing education and training opportunities in accounting, auditing, technology and professional development.
