A Marietta man is facing animal cruelty charges after police say he beat a puppy to death.

Police were called to Benfield Pet Hospital near the intersection of Powder Springs Road and the East-West Connector on Tuesday, after witnesses said Darwin Thompson brought a lifeless 8-month-old poodle to their office.

An employee said Thompson told her he hit the dog, and then said “it was more like he beat the dog,” according to the arrest warrant.

Police say a veterinarian on site confirmed the dog’s injuries were consistent with being beaten, not an attack by another animal.

Thompson was charged with a felony count of animal cruelty and was released from Cobb jail Wednesday on a $5,000 bond.

I can only pray when this man goes to prison, where he belongs, he receives the same treatment he gave the puppy. God rest the puppy's soul. There are people that will say it is just an animal. No, it wasn't. It was a creation of our Lord.

I agree 100%. In my opinion, anyone who would hurt an animal would do the same to a child in the same circumstances. This man is a sick and cruel individual that does not belong on the streets.
