Dunleith Elementary School and Communities in Schools has been selected by the State Board of Education to receive the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant.
The first year’s award of $211,696 was approved by the SBOE with four additional years of funding based on successful implementation for a projected total grant award of $1,048,792.
Dunleith Elementary School, in collaboration with CIS, applied for the grant to fund an extended day and summer instructional program titled “Moving in a “Pod’sitive Direction.” The purpose of this academic program is to provide additional core content instruction while incorporating technology tools, and physical and wellness activities. It is open to 125 second through fifth-grade students selected based on the criteria of not meeting state and district assessment (MAP and CRCT) requirements. In addition, parents will receive training and guidance (13 hours) on how to raise highly capable children and make connections with other parents in order to build a community of learners.
