Learning is better together. That’s why the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Kennesaw State University’s College of Continuing and Professional Education is the place to make new friends — and, sometimes, to rekindle old friendships.

Four friends unexpectedly reunited Aug. 4 at the OLLI Football Fanatics Social. Terry and Lori Gorsuch hadn’t seen Judy McWhorter or Dea Catso in more than 30 years. They had moved away and lost touch. Their children, who went to school together, grew up. But they didn’t forget each other.

“They saw the picture in the Marietta Daily Journal from the last dance,” said Terry, who was featured for the Cinco de Mayo Social. “Fortunately, I had that sombrero on, and when they saw that, they said, ‘Oh! Terry and Lori have been attending the dances.’”

Ironically, both McWhorter and Catso had been attending the socials for years but never ran into their former friends. This time, though, they knew to look for them and eventually asked the emcee to have the couple stand up. The friends were reconnected.

Lori said she is glad she had the chance to see them again.

“We got to catch up on their kids and see what they’re doing and how many grandchildren they have,” she said. “We exchanged phone numbers, so we’re going to try and meet for lunch. I think it’s great.”

The OLLI Socials are held four times a year and include live music, dinner and dancing. For more information about the OLLI program, visit ksuolli.com.
