Allatoona opened the season with a split on the first day of the Sequoyah Classic.

Playing pool-play matches at Creekview High School, the Lady Buccaneers beat Woodstock (25-21, 22-25, 15-7), but they couldn’t manage the same success in a three-set loss to Starr’s Mill (17-25, 25-22, 15-10).

Jenna Usry finished the night with 31 kills, while Meara Simmons had 36 assists. Defensively, Katie Cory’s 28 digs and Jada Armstrong’s eight blocks led the way.

Allatoona (1-1) will complete pool play today against Sprayberry before awaiting its fate for the remainder of the tournament.
