POWDER SPRINGS — Cobb County Police are reporting 13 children were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Powder Springs Road near Smitha Middle School on Thursday afternoon.

Cobb Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said the wreck happened at about 5:50 p.m. when a Chevrolet Blazer and a large passenger van containing a group of children went off the road and drove into the woods.

Denell Boyd with the Cobb County Fire Department said eight children and one adult were transferred to a local hospital for treatment, though none of the injuries were life-threatening. Boyd said many of the kids were in the van and not wearing safety belts, including a child who should have been in a car seat.

Boyd said she had no information regarding where the group in the van were from or where they were going.
