Prep Roundup: Sprayberry takes full advantage of Marietta favors

Despite being held to two hits, Sprayberry drew 10 walks in beating Marietta 4-0 on Wednesday.

Kierston Moore and Charlie Smith had the Lady Yellow Jackets’ lone hits, with both scoring runs and Moore contributing a stolen base and an RBI.

Nicole DeCuircio went six innings in the circle, allowing three hits and three walks, while striking out eight. Smith pitched the seventh.

Sprayberry (2-0) will resume Region 7AAAAA play today, traveling to Riverwood.

Late Tuesday

Kell 10, Riverwood 0 (5 inn.): The Lady Longhorns scored four runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth to open their season and the Region 7AAAAA schedule.

Addie Scott went 2-for-3, while Abby Glass was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Jill Torres was also 2-for-3 with a double, while Taylor Colclasure added a hit and two walks.

Lanie Angel pitched all five innings for Kell (1-0, 1-0), giving up just one hit and throwing four strikeouts.

Kell will play at Cambridge today.

VOLLEYBALL

Marietta sweeps season opener:
Marietta earned a season-opening sweep at Marietta Garden with victories over Woodland-Bartow (22-25, 25-23, 25-18) and Alexander (25-21, 25-22).

Alyssa Ammons added 14 assists, five kills and seven aces for the Lady Blue Devils (2-0). Sophia Morales chipped in nine with digs and seven aces, while Kirbe Bostick contributed 11 assists, three digs, eight kills and six aces.

Marietta will compete in the Sequoyah Classic this weekend.
