Detours are being planned for Hurt Road and South Hurt Road during the maintenance by a Cobb Department of Transportation bridge crew. Repairs to the 131-foot-long bridge involve completely replacing the wood in the bridge’s decking and runners, and are expected to cost about $30,000, according to division manager Bill Shelton. Signs will be placed to alert drivers.
“It’s part of the culture and the history of the area,” Cobb Commissioner Bob Ott said of the bridge. “It’s a piece of the community and is something unique to our residents.”
The Concord Covered Bridge was built in 1872 and is one of 17 covered bridges remaining in Georgia. The bridge is part of the county historic district named after it.
