Senior center to show ‘Age of Champions’ documentary

On July 28 at 9:30 a.m., the Senior Wellness Center in Marietta will show “Age of Champions,” an acclaimed documentary that follows an inspiring group of athletes: a 100 year old tennis champion, 86-year-old pole valuter, a basketball team of grandmothers and more.

Dr. Marshall Nash, a local neurologist, will give a brief presentation on the steps to take to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

The center is at 1150 Powder Springs St., Marietta.

Kennesaw State University’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute encourages adults age 50 and older to cultivate the art form of writing with two upcoming courses. Both classes are designed to hone skills while enhancing creative awareness techniques.

Journaling and Its Influence on All Writing and Creative Writing both start on July 23. Taught by Beth Hermes, the classes will explore styles such as journaling, creative, memoir, letters, blogging, fiction and non-fiction and poetry and prose.

These classes can strengthen skills of any proficiency. Classes are $119. Visit or call (770) 423-6765 to register.

Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marietta is having its 50th anniversary celebration the weekend July 26 to 27.

Activities include a homecoming celebration with dinner, a car show, a silent auction, music and special activities for children on July 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. and on July 27, will include a special worship service honoring former pastors, fellowship, and a luncheon. Sunday’s events will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The church is at 2881 Canton Road, Marietta.
