Dahlen Green Musgrove, 24, was arrested in July 2013 on battery charges against the woman, who was eight months pregnant, according to Kim Isaza, spokesperson for Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds.
After his arrest, the woman received a protective order prohibiting Musgrove from having any contact with her. Isaza said Musgrove wrote to the woman from jail in January, asking her to drop the charges against him.
“This is a case about control, then violence, then harassment,” Assistant District Attorney Courtney Mays said. “She lived through repeated violence and harassment because he wanted to control her.”
The woman has since had the child, who was fathered by Musgrove, Isaza said.
A jury convicted Musgrove of family violence battery and aggravated stalking Tuesday night. He was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years, with five years to serve in prison and the rest on probation. Cobb Superior Court Judge Reuben M. Green, who heard the case, also issued the woman a permanent protective order against Musgrove.
