MARIETTA — Six people were injured in a boat crash Saturday night on Lake Allatoona in Bartow County according to Mark McKinnon, a spokesman for the Department of Natural Resources.

None of the injuries were life threatening, and the most seriously injured person was the driver of a Chaparral ski boat, who was charged with boating under the influence, McKinnon said.

All those injured were taken to Cartersville Medical Center after the crash, which happened at about 11:30 p.m. — right after the Atlanta Yacht Club fireworks show, McKinnon said. The two boats collided near the mouth of Illinois Creek.

The crash was caused by the driver of the Chaparral ski boat, who crashed into a Maxum cabin cruiser from behind, “causing significant damage to the (Maxum),” McKinnon said.

The driver of the Maxum was the most seriously injured, and four other passengers on the Maxum had minor injuries, including a 4-month-old child, McKinnon said.

The names of those involved have not been released, and the incident is under investigation by DNR law enforcement rangers, McKinnon said.

This article is incorrect. It refers to the fireworks show as being from Atlanta Yacht Club when it was provided by Allatoona Yacht Club.
