The same football field where Philip Lutzenkirchen achieved many of the best moments of his high school career will be the location for a remembrance of his life Wednesday night.

A public memorial service will be held inside Frank Fillmann Stadium, on the Lassiter High School campus, Wednesday night beginning at 8 p.m.

A public visitation and funeral for Lutzenkirchen will be held Thursday at Transfiguration Catholic Church, at 1815 Blackwell Road in east Cobb. The visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the funeral Mass scheduled for 1 p.m.

Lutzenkirchen, a 2009 graduate of Lassiter, was one of two killed early Sunday morning in an automobile accident near LaGrange. He was 23.

The driver, Joseph Ian Davis, also died. Two other passengers were injured.

After leaving Lassiter, Lutzenkirchen began a successful football career at Auburn University, where he became a key part of the Tigers’ success. In 2010, he had the go-ahead touchdown catch in Auburn’s Iron Bowl victory against archrival Alabama and also caught a pass for a career-long 39 yards in the victorious BCS Championship Game against Oregon.

Auburn officials said the university will hold a public memorial of its own for Lutzenkirchen at a later date.
