MABLETON — A Mableton man has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run.

Investigators charged 34-year-old John Hendrix Riddle on Tuesday with felony hit-and-run and a misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended license in connection with the May 18 death of Harry Maurent, 30, of Austell.

Police say Maurent had been traveling westbound on Interstate 285 near Cobb Parkway in a black 2008 Nissan Versa when the car ran out of gas.

They say Maurent attempted to cross the ramp from northbound I-75 to westbound I-285, where he was struck by a car that fled the scene.

Maurent was hit by three other cars, and the drivers of those vehicles have been cooperating with authorities, police say.

Police say an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers Atlanta led to Riddle’s arrest.

The tip led police to a black 2004 Saturn Vue with damage consistent with a high speed pedestrian collision, investigators say.

Riddle is being held without bond in the Cobb County jail.
