MARIETTA — Marietta officials are advising Cobb residents to expect heavy traffic this weekend, as Civil War buffs congregate to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain.

Re-enactors will camp out on the Marietta Square from Friday through Sunday. A full-sized replica of the CSS Hunley submarine will also be on the Square in a 53-foot expandable tractor-trailer.

Because Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is playing host to a number of events throughout the weekend, officials are warning motorists the following roads will be more congested than usual: Old 41 Highway, Stilesboro Road, Burnt Hickory Road, Whitlock Avenue and Dallas Highway. Outlying roads, such as Barrett Parkway and Highway 41 may also be affected.

For a full listing of events starting, Thursday, June 26 to Sunday, June 29 visit battleofkennesawmountain150.com, and select the events tab. The website also includes details relating to parking suggestions and a map of the events.
