ACWORTH — The body of a man was recovered from Lake Allatoona Saturday night, authorities say.

According to the Associated Press, Varun Krishnamurthy, 27, from India, jumped into the lake and did not resurface.

State Department of Natural Resources and Bartow County officials responded to the scene Saturday.

Authorities said Krishnamurthy went into the lake in the Tanyard Creek portion, which is near Acworth.

No further details were released Sunday before press time.

A Bartow County Police Department official said anyone near the lake should wear a life jacket at all times and be safe by keeping track of everyone in their group while near water.

This is the fourth person to die in Lake Allatoona this year, according to authorities.

Most recently, 6-year-old Corday Duffy, of College Park, went missing while camping with his family, only to be found dead in the water on June 14 after a night-long search was conducted.

“It appears (Duffy) may have walked out on the log and then fell in water, just over his head,” said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

In another incident on May 25, 18-year-old Chance Werner of Cartersville drowned from an apparent mishap while playing a game with friends involving a shopping cart tied to a pole in the water.

However, the cart was tied to Werner and not a pole, and the cart pulled Werner into the water, according to authorities. The cart was still tied to Werner when his body was recovered.
