According to police, two men entered the Mexicana El Povenir restaurant on Mableton Parkway on Monday and immediately approached the cash register counter.
“They walked directly to the cash register and didn’t interact with customers,” spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said, adding only one female employee was running the cash register. Pierce said one of the men displayed a handgun and demanded the woman give them money.
By complying, “She did the right thing by not turning a crime of property into a crime against people,” Pierce said.
One man acted as a “lookout,” Pierce said, while the man with the gun took money from the register. The suspects fled on foot in the direction of the Twin Oaks Mobile Home Park, Pierce said.
The two suspects are described by police as black teenagers between 14 and 19.
The gunman is described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a thin build, and Pierce said he was wearing dark clothing with a bandana across the lower part of his face.
The lookout is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, with a thin build. Pierce said the suspect had a T-shirt tied around his head to obscure his face at the time of the robbery.
No injuries were reported and police are asking anyone with information to call (770) 499-3945. To remain anonymous, and possibly receive a reward, police say to call Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at (404) 577-TIPS.
