John Raymond Stewart, 88, a longtime and valued member of First Baptist Church Chapel of Marietta, died Thursday, June 5, 2014. For more than 20 years, John was the unofficial greeter of the church as he opened the door to the Welcome Center and sanctuary for members and guests 52 weeks a year no matter how bad the weather. Some members have estimated he opened the door to the church more than 25,000 times a year as the volunteer greeter. He was survived by a brother, Robert Hal Stewart, and a cousin Mary Ann Howerton. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of First Baptist Church on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Bill Ross presiding.
