The Cobb County Water System reported two sewer overflows occuring in the county over the weekend.

A wastewater manhole overflow, resulting in 630 gallons discharged into Nickajack Creek, occurred on Shannon Way in Mableton on Sunday at 2:49 p.m. The overflow, which was the result of grease, was stopped at 4:30 p.m.

Water system workers flushed an 8-inch main, which was approximately 25 feet from the waterway, to clear the blockage and limed a four-foot area around the manhole.

A second overflow, resulting in 200 gallons discharged into Proctor Creek, occurred on Shirley Drive in Kennesaw on Friday at 8:26 a.m. The overflow, which was the result of roots, was stopped at 9:50 a.m.

The blockage was unstopped with a jet machine and the spill area was limed.
