Last month, the Honeysuckle Garden Club kicked off its 67th year with a fascinating program by local garden designer and owner of Cole and Company, writer and poet Shirley Cole.

Cole toured the group through member Marlene DuBose’s lovely backyard gardens that she totally redesigned, replanted and even deer-proofed. She incorporated several groups of planters that had been collected by Marlene, placing them strategically throughout the property. The garden was both the location for the meeting and an alfresco lunch, served on shaded, white and blue tables on the patio. Arrangements of fresh hydrangeas decorated the tables, and a lunch of homemade salads and seasonal fruits was enjoyed.

In attendance were several emeritus members including Suzanne Schmidt, Bebe Meaders, and charter member Imogene Watkins Reeves. Ellie Underwood, Betty Duncan, Karin Freeman, and Laura Underwood were the hostesses.

The Honeysuckle Garden Club was founded in 1947 by the venerable and beloved Regina Rambo Benson and sponsored by the Flower Garden Club of Marietta.
