James H. Holcomb, age 70, went home to the Lord on Friday, May 23, 2014. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 28 at 11 a.m. at East Cobb United Methodist Church in Marietta. He was a life-long resident of Marietta/Cobb County; graduated from Marietta High School in 1961; attended Young Harris College; served in the Air National Guard; was a Cobb County Fireman in the late 1970s to early 80s; retired in 1998 after 30 years of service from Lockheed-Martin as an Assistant Dept Manager for the C130 final assembly. He was an avid deer hunter, outdoorsman, gardener, storyteller and a dedicated member of East Cobb UMC. He was an amazing Paw Paw to 12 grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents, Annie LeCroy Holcomb and Harrel Holcomb. Survived by his wife of 30 years, Patricia Holcomb; daughters, Holly (Billy) Claypole and Dana (Ron) Long; sons, Ben (Kim) Holcomb, Boone (Dane) Holcomb and Derek (Carla) Stephens; many cousins, nieces and nephews. James suffered and fought metastasized prostate cancer for 16 years but never let it stop him from living life to the fullest. He finally won the battle! The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta (770-428-1511).
