Police say a Marietta man who wrote a $90,000 check May 14 for two vehicles at Steve Raymond Chevrolet on Cobb Parkway in Smyrna is in custody.

Gregory O. Cole has been charged with theft by deception greater than $1,500 after obtaining a 2014 Chevrolet truck and a 2013 Mercedes Benz. Police say Cole admitted the check he returned to the dealership May 14 had only $50 in the associated Wells Fargo account, which Cindy Kollenberg of Wells Fargo confirmed.

Kollenberg said the account on which the $90,000 check was written had been closed April 22, and the second check was written against an account that Cole opened May 5 that had $50 in it. Bond for Cole is set at $35,000.
