Robert Lane Thompson, age 72 of Douglasville, passed away, Thursday, May 15.  He was born August 4, 1941 in Mullens, West Virginia to the late William Thompson and Lucille Carte Thompson.  He was a Veteran of the US Army and served as a cryptographer during the cold war in Germany. He was the owner of a commercial janitorial business since 1984, former Deputy Sheriff of Douglas County, Fire LT with Douglas County six years and building inspector with GA Tech since 2007. He was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a niece, Amber Thompson and father-in-law, Louis Speigel. Survivors are his wife Linda Lee Coe Thompson of Douglasville; son and daughter-in-law: Lane and Emily Thompson of Birmingham, AL; step-daughter: Stacey Shue of Baltimore, MD; brothers and sisters-in-law: Tommy and Sylvia Thompson, Sr., of Douglasville, Steven and Cheryl Speigel, mother-in-law: Joan Speigel, all of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren: Madison Thompson, Maverick Lane Thompson, Codey Claar and Brianna Claar; niece: Tara Fasone, nephew: Tommy Thompson, Jr and great niece: Ava Fasone. Funeral Service will be held Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 3:00 PM from Beulah Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Bray officiating.  Mr. Rodney Gallman will deliver the eulogy. In accordance with his wishes, his body will be cremated following the service. The family will receive friends, Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 5-8 PM and the body will lie in state Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour of 3:00 PM at Beulah Baptist Church.
