Prep Roundup: Walton lacrosse team upended

Walton’s boys lacrosse team couldn’t overcome a three-goal halftime deficit and missed advancing to its first state championship game, losing 12-8 to Roswell in the Class AAAAAA state semifinals.

The Hornets advanced to Saturday’s state championship game against Lambert.

With the score tied 2-all in the first quarter, Walton (15-6) dug itself a hole by giving up five unanswered goals as Roswell, its Area 2AAAAAA rival, took a 7-2 lead.

Walton cut into the advantage, outscoring the Hornets 4-1 over the second and third quarters to trail 8-6 heading to the final period.

Peter Kavney scored in the opening moments of the fourth quarter to pull the Raiders within one, but that was as close as Walton got the rest of the way.

Josh Peretz and Dylan Boast each scored two goals while Ryan Jones, Luke Holly and Jack Whittaker each added one. Michael Gernatt had two assists.


Mill Creek 5, Harrison 0:
The Hoyas’ run through the Class AAAAAA state playoffs came to an end.

The Hawks advanced to Saturday’s state championship game at Kennesaw State, where they will face Brookwood.

Harrison finished the season 14-6-2.
