AUSTELL — Cobb Police have determined a body found in the Chattahoochee River is a homicide.

The man, identified as 34-year-old Perfecto Ochoa Alvarado, was discovered Monday by a fisherman who was in his boat in Austell near the Cobb-Fulton County border.

According to Cobb Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce, Alvarado was found on a felled tree near the riverbank. His body was recovered by Cobb Fire and Emergency Services with the aid of the Department of Natural Resources. Pierce said the embankment where Alvarado was found was steep enough to warrant placing the body in a boat before it was turned over to the county’s medical examiner’s office at a nearby boat ramp.

Authorities have not released details of his death and are awaiting a toxicology report.

Anyone with information on Alvarado is urged to contact police at (770) 499-3945.
