MARIETTA — Police are trying to identify suspects in a double shooting on Franklin Road that happened early this morning.

Officers responded to reports of shots being fired in the area of Powers Ferry Road and South Marietta Parkway at about 4:45 a.m. today, said Officer David Baldwin, spokesman for the Marietta Police Department.

“As they were canvassing the area for the possible shooting, we received a 911 call from an apartment at 707 Franklin Road (Liberty Pointe Apartments) indicating that two people had been shot,” Baldwin said.

Shots had been fired at a car containing four people in the area of St. Johns Lane and Powers Ferry Road injuring two women in the vehicle.

The women fled for their safety and ended up at Liberty Pointe Apartments, Baldwin said.

They received non-life threatening injuries and were sent to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment.

Baldwin said a verbal altercation likely led to the shooting. No suspects have been named and no arrests have been made.

Police continue to interview witnesses, Baldwin said.

“Right now, we’re still kind of searching for a motive,” Baldwin said.
