AUSTELL — At 2:48 p.m. Monday afternoon, a fisherman in his boat called 911 after discovering a body draped across a log at the edge of the Chattahoochee River.

The discovery was made adjacent to the Six Flags Over Georgia theme park near the Great American Scream Machine roller coaster.

Sgt. Dana Pierce, spokesman for Cobb Police, does not believe the location has any relation to the unidentified person’s death.

“When the water level goes down, (the body) appeared out of the water,” Pierce said.

Cobb Police could not immediately determine if the adult-sized, “badly-decomposed” body was a man or woman.

As of Monday evening, Cobb Police did not know if foul play was involved or if the person has been reported as missing.

Pierce said the area is treacherous with high embankments, so the body was taken down the river by boat before it was transported by land to the medical examiner’s office.
