AUSTELL — Two Austell men were arrested by Cobb Police less than a week apart on charges of driving past active bus stops loading school children.

Both men were also caught with suspected illegal substances in their possession after being stopped for the traffic violations.

Jarrett Elijah Sharp was arrested April 8 after being stopped by Cobb police for reportedly passing a loading school bus at the intersection of Six Flags Drive and Summerstone Lane.

Police say Sharp’s car smelled strongly of marijuana, which warranted a vehicle search. Police say they found almost nine grams of suspected marijuana Sharp claimed as his own. Police say they suspected Sharpe was planning to distribute the marijuana.

Lezerick Smith also passed a loading school bus April 15 where Six Flags Drive meets Pine View Way.

Cobb police say they found 15 bags containing a powder suspected of being cocaine, the bags were in a backpack belonging to Smith.

Sharp faces charges of failure to stop for school bus loading/unloading and purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution or sale of marijuana. Smith faces charges of overtaking a school bus and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.
