MARIETTA — Special guests and WellStar employees joined together Thursday to raise awareness about the wonderful gift of life through organ donation.

WellStar Kennestone Hospital and LifeLink of Georgia honored National Donate Life Month with the second annual flag raising ceremony held Thursday.

A moving moment was the story shared by a special guest, Kenneth Moritsugu, who retired in September 2007 as acting United States surgeon general.

When Moritsugu lost his wife twenty years ago in a car accident, the family found some solace in the fact that her heart, kidney, pancreas, liver and corneas went to save the lives of many people.

Four years later, Moritsugu’s 20-year-old daughter also died in a car accident. Again, the family decided to donate her organs.

Camille Holubar, a WellStar Health Place employee whose son became an organ donor, also shared her touching story and spoke about the importance of organ donation to save lives.
