The city of Acworth celebrated the 2014 Cobb CDBG Day on Thursday afternoon, with Mayor Tommy Allegood and Alderman Tim Houston acting as hosts.
Since 1974, the CDBG Program, run by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, has provided state and local governments with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs.
Over the last 15 years, the CDBG funds have financed several significant quality of life improvements in Acworth, including a trail system connecting Cowan Road to School Street.
The Roberts School, which originally opened in the 1950s, was refurbished with the funds and dedicated as a community and educational center during the ceremony.
Houston attended first through fourth grade at the Roberts School in the mid-1960s.
Next on the horizon using CDBG funds will be expansion of Logan Farm Park in Acworth, near the intersection of Cherokee Street and Taylor Street.
The park redevelop-ment will focus on expanding parking, a playground, restrooms, open play space and a circular walking track that will connect to the existing trail system.
