The Jonquil Jog kicks the festival off Saturday morning at 8 a.m., with the 5K Run/Walk. The jog will be at the City of Smyrna Municipal Building next to the Village Green. Registration is required. To register, call (770) 319-5401 or visit www.smyrnacity.com.
Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
“The Smyrna venue is one of the nicest. It’s just beautiful — the brick and flowers, the big center Memorial lawn that they have. It’s one of my favorite events that we do. Spring with everything in bloom. It’s a rebirth. The citizens really respond. We get great crowds. It’s a nice event,” said Bill Watson, an event coordinator with JRM Management Services.
About 20,000 people are expected to attend the two-day event that benefits the Smyrna Education Foundation.
The festival features free entertainment, free Wildlife Wendy Tropical Bird Shows, free puppet shows, free chainsaw carving shows, 175 arts and crafts booths, kid zone, free parking, festival foods, and more.
Saturday is National Pretzel Day. Snyder’s of Hanover will even be on hand with samples of their great pretzels.
“There’s something for everyone. Mom can shop. The kids can play. There’s music and food. Everyone likes to get off the diet and enjoy some festival food — cotton candy, corn dogs and things like that that they’re not going to eat every day. It’s a great atmosphere. It’s a true family event.” Watson said.
