After losing all nine of its non-region games, the Blue Devils have done a 180 during Region 4AAAAAA play, winning nine of 11. Marietta is effectively tied with Kennesaw Mountain for the region lead, with each team sporting two region losses and the Blue Devils and Mustangs having split their season series.
Evan Steele pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out eight, walking four and allowing four hits. He also helped his own cause by driving a run in.
Mitchell Golden was 2-for-3 with a double, while Will Crowe (double) and Myles Mitchell (sacrifice fly) also had RBIs.
Marietta will travel to Harrison on Wednesday.
Walton 19, Wheeler 5: The Raiders put an emphatic finish on the Region 5AAAAAA game, scoring a combined 10 runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Tyler Heinrichs went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Chase Burks was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Luke Manzo 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Logan Barnette had two hits and RBI, while Jason Rooks hit a solo home run.
Ryles Kirkland went 2-for-4 for Wheeler, with Patrick Singer driving in a pair of runs.
Zac Kristofak (2-1) scattered two hits and a walk in five shutout innings for Walton (16-6, 6-3 Region 5AAAAAA), which will host Wheeler on Wednesday.
Mount Paran Christian 9, St. Francis 1: One seventh-inning run was all that kept the Eagles from pitching a shutout.
Reed Massey went 3-for-4 on the day with a double and four RBIs, while Isaac Phillips was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run. Taylor Trammell also drove in a pair of runs, and Jake Palomaki contributed a triple in a 2-for-3 day.
Rutty Jones (3-0) struck out four and allowed four hits over five innings.
Mount Paran (18-3, 15-0 Region 6A) will travel to Whitefield Academy today.
North Cobb 5, Hillgrove 2: North Cobb is still in contention with a playoff spot with a win over Hillgrove in Region 4AAAAAA play.
With North Cobb (13-8, 7-4) clinging to a 4-2 lead, Ryan Schmitz came in relief of Noah Hahlbohn in the sixth inning, with runners on first and second and nobody out, and retired the side. Hahlbohn went five innings and gave up two runs on four hits and had three strikeouts.
Chandler Seivers had a solo home run in the second inning for North Cobb, while Nolan Greckel was 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the second. Elijah Sepnieski was 2-for-4 with a home run and Tyler Martin was 4-for-4 with an RBI.
For Hillgrove, Alex Nuovo was 2-for-4 at the plate and Channing Painton was 1-for-2 with a double.
North Cobb will host Hillgrove on Wednesday.
Lassiter 6, Etowah 5: Three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning helped Lassiter pull away after it trailed Etowah early.
After Davis True led off the fifth inning with a single, Nick Esposito got a single and Jonathan McKinney loaded the bases on an error. Nathan Dupree delivered a two-run single to tie the game at 5-all, and Nathan Anthes followed with an RBI hit for the go-ahead run.
Grant Berry went 2-for-4 for Lassiter. Dupree went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Randall Heller contributed with a two-run single in the fourth.
Taylor Bice pitched the final three innings for the Trojans and gave up an unearned run on two hits.
Lassiter (8-13, 5-4 Region 5AAAAAA) will play at Etowah on Wednesday.
Walker 4, Darlington 1 (2OT): Brothers River and Parker Smith sparked an overtime surge as the Wolverines won the Area 7A home game.
After River Smith scored the first of three overtime goals, Parker Smith assisted Read Baca on the second before River Smith assisted Luke Hathaway on the final goal. Baca assisted the first overtime goal.
River Smith put Walker (10-5, 8-3) on the board with a penalty kick in the first half, 40 seconds after Darlington scored.
Sammy Smith — no relation to River and Parker — saved four shots for the Wolverines, who will travel to Mount Paran Christian on Thursday.
Mount Paran Christian 6, Whitefield Academy 0: The Eagles recorded their ninth shutout of the season, setting a school record.
Chance Hogan helped make that happen with six saves at goal.
Alex Gernatt had three goals to lead Mount Paran, while Kevin Barajas added two more to help win the Area 7A game. Cooper Ingram accounted for the other score.
Mount Paran (13-2, 10-1) will host Walker on Thursday.
Kennesaw Mountain 1, Marietta 0: Kennesaw Mountain stayed undefeated in Region 4AAAAAA play with the win.
Cheyenne Golden scored the Lady Mustangs’ goal in the second half with 18 minutes left to play.
Tayler Hartrampf split two defenders with a pass to Golden inside the box, and Golden put it in from 6 yards out.
Marietta goalkeeper Grace Weiner had 17 saves.
Kennesaw Mountain (8-4-1, 7-0) will get a test at home against Harrison today.
Whitefield Academy 3, Mount Paran Christian 1: The Lady Wolfpack won their fifth straight with the Area 7A win.
Logan Pearce had two goals on the night, with both assisted by Frances Hamilton. Hamilton added a goal on an assist by Pearce.
Whitefield (7-6, 5-3) packed it in on defense after taking a 3-1 half time lead. Lauren Burke had 11 saves.
Whitefield will play today at North Cobb Christian.
Walker 3, Darlington 1: The Lady Wolverines won their fifth straight behind Emily Kennerson’s two goals.
Elizabeth Ouellette had the other goal and dished out two assists.
Walker (11-2, 9-0 Area 7A) held Darlington to six shots and Honor Stoner had two saves at goal.
Walker will play at Atlanta International today.
Strath Haven (Pa.) 16, Walton 13: Walton trailed by six at the half, but fought back in the second to get within a goal with 4 minutes left before Strath Haven pulled away.
Strath Haven outshot Walton 33-19 in the game.
Erin McBride had four goals for the Lady Raiders. Riley Ewing added three more, while Kylie Hothaus scored two and Sophia Watkins, Laura Jordan, Hunter Corvin and Lauren Tennant each had one.
Emily James had 15 saves for Walton (10-4-1), which will face Radnor (Pa.) on Wednesday at Milton High School.
