Cobb police say a man drove a stolen van with no license, rear-ended another car and fled the scene, leaving the van while it was still in drive.

According to a police report, when the man left the van, it ran into a state patrol car.

According to police, Rashawn Wheeler of Atlanta was driving a stolen 2007 Ford Econoline van March 25. According to a warrant, at about 5:05 p.m., the van rear-ended a car near the intersection of Interstate 75 and Akers Mill Road, leading to a charge of following too closely.

Police say Wheeler then ran from the scene, which added a charge of hit and run. The van was still in drive and hit a Georgia State Patrol car, leaving visible damage to all three vehicles, according to police.

According to an arrest warrant, police then yelled at Wheeler, telling him to stop, but to no avail, which led to a charge of obstruction of law enforcement. The warrant says Wheeler ran through a storage yard and jumped a barbed wire fence, then ran down a creek and away from a second state trooper before jumping a wall to get onto Akers Mill Road.

Confronted with a third officer, police say Wheeler jumped back across the wall where he was arrested.

After his arrest, officers charged Wheeler with driving without a license and felony theft by receiving.

Wheeler was denied bond.
