Outdoor gear retailer Cabela’s is just months away from opening its southwest Cherokee County store, bringing 200 jobs to the county, just north of Cobb.
Wes Remmer, a spokesman with the Nebraska-based chain, said the 100,000-square-foot shop, which is planned to be the first in the Cherokee Village commercial development, should welcome its first visitors in early fall.
“We haven’t announced an official date,” Remmer said. “But the project is moving forward.”
There is also no official date for when Cabela’s will hire its projected 200 employees, although a hiring event will be sometime in the next few months, Remmer said. The jobs will be a mix of full time, part time and seasonal, Cabela’s has said.
“Most (employees) will come from Acworth and the surrounding areas,” Remmer said. “We’re really excited about bringing in local outdoorsmen and women who are passionate.”
In the meantime, before the hiring event is announced, Remmer said anyone interested in applying can visit www.cabelas.jobs to throw their name in the hat.
Construction on the vast store on Highway 92 at Interstate 75 began in early fall 2013. The facility is one of two of the popular national retailer’s first locations in the state of Georgia, with the other going in Augusta. The company has said southwest Cherokee County was chosen for its strategic location in metro Atlanta and strong retail market.
The Cherokee Cabela’s is set to be the larger of the two new Georgia stores and will be designed to offer customers an “outdoor-like experience with museum-quality wildlife displays,” the company said. That experience will include a large replica of a mountain, a gun library, boat shop, indoor archery range and a deli and fudge shop.
“We think it’s going to be a beautiful store,” Remmer said.
