Firefighters assisted a woman last week who Austell Police say was running down a major road after being shot at by her husband.

According to the warrant, after a verbal altercation March 25 outside of a business on Humphries Hill Road west of Veterans Memorial Highway, the woman was confronted by her husband with .25-caliber silver-plated pistol with a pearl white handle.

The warrant states Richard Mays of Atlanta shot and missed his wife, which caused her to run down Humphries Hill Road, where she flagged down the Austell Fire Engine 1.

Three firefighters assisted her until Austell Police arrived.

Police reported finding the pistol outside of a business’s building inside a drainage pipe, and a shell casing was found outside near the front door, the warrant said.

Richard Mays was arrested and faces charges of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and aggravated assault.

He was given a $15,000 bond, but remains at the Cobb jail.
