A Villa Rica man was arrested by Cobb School District police at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at South Cobb High School, on the corner of Clay and Austell roads.

Police say Nicholas Kelley, who is not a student at South Cobb High School, was found on the school campus with a black metal blade approximately 3 inches long.

According to district police, Kelley also had metal brass knuckles inside his coat pocket, as well as seven small rolls of marijuana, totaling less than one ounce.

“The brass knuckles were discovered during a ‘pat down’ of his personal clothing,” the warrant stated.

Cobb School District employs 38 police officers, so each high school always has at least one officer on campus. Seven Cobb high schools, including South Cobb, have two officers on duty at the same time.

Kelley faces a felony charge of possession of a weapon near a school, as well as three misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon, criminal trespass and possession of marijuana.

He was granted a $10,000 bond and released two days later.
