John R. “Dick” McAliley Jr., 85, of Acworth, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Friday morning in the McClure Chapel of the Acworth United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Lowry officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Hill Cemetery. Mr. McAliley will lie in state at the church for 1 hour prior to the funeral service. He was born in St. Joseph, MO and graduated high school in Greenback, TN. He served his country in the US Navy from 1948-1968, retiring with the rank of CTM1. Mr. McAliley had lived in Acworth for 46 years and was a member of the Acworth United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his sons, Joseph Peyton and Jeffrey Lee McAliley and a granddaughter, Rebekah Mae McAliley. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Mae Belle McAliley; son, John (Mary) McAliley III; daughters, Linda (Ken) Hill and Sandra (Mike) Jennings; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother, Stanley (Caroline) McAliley; sister, Pat (Warren) Larson; .several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Acworth United Methodist Church 4340 Collins Circle, NW Acworth, GA 30101.
