MARIETTA — Three alleged gang members are in jail without bond after police say they broke into a home and destroyed the television and game system they were trying to steal before they could get away.

Kelvin Ugene Cosey of Smyrna, Christopher Lee Townes of Marietta and Jack Dewayne Shanks, also of Marietta, have all been charged in a Jan. 10 armed robbery at Crescent Square Apartments, on Austell Road, Marietta.

Cosey was arrested March 12 and Townes and Shanks were arrested March 20.

Exact dates of birth were not listed on jail booking information, but Cosey was born in 1995, Townes in 1994 and Shanks in 1993.

The three men are “documented” members of the Smyrna-based street gang called Hard Head Money Clic, or HHMC, according to arrest warrants. The gang’s members are involved in a “multitude of crimes,” warrants said, including armed robbery, strong-armed robbery, burglary, thefts, narcotics sales and weapon violations.

HHMC has a strong presence on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, the warrant said.

Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds says the gang is on his radar.

The three men charged in the January burglary all face felony street gang activity charges, and Reynolds said he hopes to pursue those charges.

“If we’re able to proceed on with gang charges … we intend on doing that,” Reynolds said. “That enhances the punishment.”

The crimes HHMC members are accused of include mostly property crimes, Reynolds said, and they may be tied to a series of armed robberies.

Cosey, Townes and Shanks are accused of knocking on the door of a unit at Crescent Square Apartments and forcing themselves inside the door while armed with a handgun.

Once inside, the three men attempted to steal both a 32-inch Vizio flat screen television and a PlayStation 3 game system, but the items were destroyed in a fight with the residents of the apartment.

Cosey is accused of striking the right side of the victim’s face during the struggle, causing his cheek bone to break in three places. Immediate surgery was needed, according to a warrant, and the victim’s face and jaw were disfigured.

The three men face multiple felony charges including aggravated assault, street gang activity and burglary.

Shanks faces an additional felony charge of possession of a firearm by a felon for allegedly having the handgun used in the burglary and acting as a lookout. He was convicted Feb. 2, 2012, in Cobb Superior Court of another burglary.

Cosey has been charged with a number of other crimes including theft by receiving stolen property and possession of marijuana.
