Bert Mills was elected managing partner of the firm. Robert “Bob” Kiser, former managing partner since 2009, will remain a partner and continue to serve the firm, his clients and advise the partner group.
Mills joined Moore Colson in 1991 and was named partner-in-charge of Moore Colson’s Tax Practice in 1993.
Formerly Moore Colson’s tax practice leader, Mills has been an integral part of the development of the firm, not only on the tax front, but across the board. As a member of the Executive Committee, he helped drive the effort to establish the firm’s successful Rainmaker initiative and the program’s achievements can easily be measured by the growth in both employees as well as new clients. Also part of the Rainmaker program, he helped direct the realignment and development of the firm’s industry niches and played a major role in developing and identifying new partners for the firm. He has represented the firm at numerous teaching and speaking engagements throughout Atlanta and the Southeast.
During his tenure with Moore Colson, he has been instrumental in its overall success and many important industry accolades, including America’s 2013 Best of the Best Top 50 CPA Firms by INSIDE Public Accounting Magazine.
Mills is a graduate of the University of Florida. He and his wife, Carmen, have two children, Justin and Anna.
The firm also announced that Adam Bateman was promoted to senior manager in the Tax Practice.
His primary focus in this new role is with tax compliance and planning services for closely-held businesses and their owners. His responsibilities at Moore Colson include the coordination of tax services for clients, planning and organizing engagements, managing the progress of work, suggesting and implementing tax planning ideas, and supervising staff.
Upon completion of a double major in accounting and finance from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in May 2006. In June 2006, he was hired as a tax associate at Moore Colson and was promoted to tax senior associate in 2007. He was promoted to tax manager in 2010 and received a Masters of Taxation from Georgia State University in 2011.
Jon Powell was promoted to senior manager of Risk Advisory and Compliance Services in the Business Assurance Practice.
As a senior manager with Moore Colson, he leads and performs Sarbanes Oxley, SSAE 16 (formally SAS 70) Service Organization audits and other compliance engagements. He also performs in charge responsibilities on the firm’s large IT and financial audit engagements and also leads Moore Colson’s data analytics initiatives by utilizing tools such as IDEA, ACL and Monarch.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2002 and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 2005 from The University of Georgia, and joined Moore Colson in 2006 as an associate. Prior to coming to Moore Colson, he served as an intern with Deloitte and Touche LLP in Atlanta and as the financial officer of a family owned business for two years.
Marissa Nash was promoted to manager in the Tax Practice.
Formerly a tax intern with Moore Colson during the summer of 2008, she was hired as a tax associate in 2009 and promoted to tax senior associate in 2012. In her new role as a tax manager, she is responsible for supervising staff, and planning and organizing client engagements, primarily in the health care industry.
She is a graduate of Georgia State University in Atlanta with a Masters of Taxation, and also a graduate of the University of Georgia in Athens with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting.
Christina Quinones was promoted to manager in the Tax Practice.
Quinones worked as a tax intern with Moore Colson prior to being hired as an associate in the tax services practices in 2009. In 2011, she was promoted to a tax senior associate. In her role as a tax manager, her new responsibilities include planning and organizing engagements, and supervising staff. Her focus is within the Real Estate industry.
She is a 2009 graduate of the University of Alabama with a Master of Tax Accounting and has a B.S. in Business Administration. While attending the University of Alabama, she worked as an accounting assistant at the Ferguson Student Union. She was named Outstanding Minority Undergraduate in 2006, Business Honors Program 2006-07, Women’s Honors Program 2004-05, Presidential Scholarship, National Hispanic Scholar and Scholastic Silver Key Art Award. She is also a member of PrimeGlobal.
Sydney Trew was also promoted to Manager in the Tax Practice.
She joined Moore Colson in 2010 as a tax associate after serving as an intern with the firm in 2009. She was promoted to tax senior associate in 2012. As a tax manager, she coordinates tax services for clients, plans and organizes engagements, supervises staff, and implements tax planning ideas for closely-held businesses, and construction and real estate clients.
Trew is a graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., with a Masters degree in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a concentration in International Business. While attending Samford, she was a member of the Dean’s List, Beta Gamma Sigma National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Fraternity, Phi Mu Fraternity and a recipient of the Phi Mu National Scholarship. She is a member of PrimeGlobal and was a 2012 winner of the firm’s Peak Award.
