The Hawks (23-7) will now travel to take on Tift County on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
Douglas County erased a 20-point Hillgrove lead in the second half, and built a four-point lead in the fourth quarter.
The game was tied 69-all and the Tigers appeared to be holding the ball for a final shot, but they scored on a layup with 7 seconds left to take a 71-69 lead.
The Hawks drove the length of the floor and had a layup attempt blocked out of bounds with 0.8 seconds left to set up the final shot.
Hillgrove jumped out to a 25-5 lead after the first quarter. Kyle Castlin and B.J. Brown each had eight in the period. Castlin finished with 26 points and Brown had 14.
Julian finished the night with 18 points and Keith Ray had 11.
North Cobb Christian 57, Fellowship Christian 42: Stephon Jelks’ double-double led the Eagles out of the first round on the Class A private-school state playoffs, and onto a battle with one of their fiercest rivals.
Fifth-seeded North Cobb Christian (21-7) will travel to fourth-seeded Whitefield Academy on Thursday. It will be the teams’ fourth meeting, with the Eagles having won twice, including last week’s Region 6A championship game.
Jelks finished the night with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Trey Kalina had 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks, while Hunter Ware had 12 points and four steals.
North Cobb Christian led 18-8 after the first quarter, only to see Fellowship trim the gap to seven by halftime. The Eagles, however, pulled back out in the second half.
South Cobb 7, Wheeler 6: Tyler Minkkinen was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Eagles to a non-region victory over the Wildcats.
Wheeler scored six runs with only one hit, highlighted by a three-run fourth where they were the beneficiary of five walks, two errors and a hit batsman.
South Cobb’s Nate Golding came in in relief and pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing a hit and a walk to earn the victory. The Eagles (2-1) overcame 11 walks for the game.
Thomas Leffew was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Tyler Randles and Kyree Hawkins each had doubles and Jamal Combest added a hit and drove in two.
South Cobb will travel to Hiram today.
Hillgrove 4, Brookwood 0: Tristan DeLozier hit a solo home run and Jacob Farmer added a two-run single to lift the Hawks to a non-region victory.
DeLozier finished the game 2-for-3.
Jake Watkins pitched 4 2/3 of two-hit ball for the win.
Hillgrove (2-0) will travel to Pope on Friday.
Sprayberry 3, Lassiter 2: After scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead, the Yellow Jackets kept their east Cobb rival at bay the rest of the way.
Michael Chavis went 2-for-3 for Sprayberry (2-2), while Zach Williams and Alex Envers each scored a run.
McKenzie Mills (2-0) pitched a complete game, striking out nine. Neither of the runs he allowed were earned.
Sprayberry will host Roswell on Saturday.
North Cobb 7, East Paulding 6: Trevor Devine’s two-run double in the top of the seventh inning, put the Warriors ahead in the non-region road game.
Devine’s double, his second of the game, capped off a four-run seventh.
Andrew Eisworth was 3-for-5, while Tre Kirklin was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Tyler Martin was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.
Chad McClanahan (1-0) pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief for Devine, striking out four. Devine also had four strikeouts.
North Cobb (2-0) will travel to Blessed Trinity on Friday.
Walton 5, Mountain View 4: The Raiders provided the game-winning run in the fifth inning on a double by Luke Manzo to drive in Tyler Heinrichs.
Walton also tied the game in the fifth prior to Manzo’s hit when Heinrichs hit a single to score Carter Kieboom.
The Raiders went up 3-0 in the top of the third inning before Mountain View answered back with a four-spot.
Kieboom was 2-for-4 and Manzo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Will White started the game and went five innings, giving up four runs on five hits. Harrison Belvsma went two innings, giving up one hit, two walks, and three strikeouts to get the save.
Walton (4-0) will host Pope today.
Walker 7, Whitefield Academy 0: Jacob Hathaway scored two goals and Luke Hathaway had a goal and two assists as the Wolverines rolled in an Area 7 match.
Read Baca had a goal and an assists and Conrad Heath added two assists. Colby Turner and Sammy Smith combined for the shutout in goal.
Walker (3-0, 2-0) will travel to Excel on Thursday.
Harrison 1, Etowah 0: Eight minutes into the second half, Ethan Stolz scored unassisted, providing the Hoyas with their lone goal in the non-region road game.
Grayson Guertin made four saves for Harrison (1-3-1), which will travel to East Coweta on Thursday.
Walton 1, West Forsyth 0: Jackson Crow scored the game-winner off an assist from Connor Liney 70 minutes into the contest and Michael Jurick posted 10 saves to help Walton remain undefeated and secure the non-region win at home.
The Raiders (6-0) host Woodstock on Friday.
Pope 2, Forsyth Central 0: Pope scored both of its goals in the second half to earn the Region 7AAAAA road win.
Carlos Quintana put the Greyhounds (4-1, 1-0) on the board first with help from Ian Vanbuskirk. Matt Laferle added the insurance goal off an assist from Quintana.
Travis Parker had two saves and the Greyhounds outshot Forsyth Central 15-6.
Pope is at Lassiter on Friday.
Walton 3, West Forsyth 0: Leigh Purinton twice scored on headers in the first half and the Lady Raiders rolled to a non-region victory
Purinton’s goals were assisted by Sara Hardin and Maddie Wellstead.
Delaney Erwin scored in the second half after a steal, she rifled a goal in from 30 yards.
Peyton Ryan finished with eight saves to earn the shutout in goal.
Walton (1-2-1) will host Woodstock on Friday.
Walker 1, Whitefield Academy 0: Lauren Burke made 14 saves, but it wasn’t enough.
Whitefield Academy (0-3) will host Mount Paran on Tuesday.
Harrison 5, Etowah 1: Levi Lines scored two goals to lead the Lady Hoyas to a non-region victory.
Treva Aycock had a goal and two assists, Audrey Tanner finished with a goal and an assist, Lizzy Sieracki had a goal and Kellyn Dorsey added an assist.
Harrison (4-0) is at East Coweta on Tuesday.
Allatoona 4, Rome 3 (PK): After scoring twice in regulation, Willough Davis provided the penalty kick clincher in the Region 5AAAAA road game.
Allatoona’s fifth kicker in the penalty kicks, Davis made the net to give the Lady Buccaneers (2-1, 1-0) the victory. McKenzie Anderson and Aleiyah Armstrong also scored on penalty kicks.
Sammi Jacob scored the third regulation goal, and she also assisted on one of Davis’ scores.
Emily Jones saved three shots in regulation, and then two more in the penalty kick phase, for Allatoona, which will travel to Villa Rica on Friday.
Mount Paran Christian 1, Fellowship Christian 0: Ali Fern scored in the closing minutes of regulation, giving the Lady Eagles an Area 7A win and an upset of Class A’s top-ranked team.
Alex Reed put the ball in play with a free kick, sending it to the back line, where Fern then fed it into the Fellowship goal.
Courtney McKenzie made 14 saves for Mount Paran (1-1-1, 1-0-1), which will travel Friday to Darlington.
Pope 2, Forsyth Central 0: Alex Grace and Parker Schroedel each scored to give the Lady Greyhounds a win in their Region 7AAAAA opener.
Grace scored off Belle Geiger’s assist in the first half, while Schroedel scored unassisted in the second.
Natalia Icen saved the only shot she faced for Pope (3-0, 1-0), which will travel to Lassiter on Friday.
Walker 1, Whitefield Academy 0: Elizabeth Ouellette scored in the second half, giving the Lady Wolverines the Area 7A win.
Jesse Baynes assisted on Oullette’s goal, while Honor Stoner made six saves for Walker (2-1, 2-0), which will travel to Christian Heritage on Friday.
Harrison 17, Sprayberry 1: Luke Hatfield scored four goals and one assist to lead Harrison to the non-area road win.
Connor Mills and Brian Wierzbowski each had three goals for the Hoyas (3-0). Arty Lewis and Brad Pierson each contributed two goals, while Campbell Axt had five assists. Mitchell Barnes totaled three saves.
Three other players each scored one goal for Harrison, which hosts Westminster on Saturday.
Hillgrove 13, North Cobb 7: Andrea Sturberg and Morgan Perrone each scored four goals to lead the Lady Hawks to a win over the Lady Warriors.
Olivia Ellis had three goals with three assists, Katrina Caruso and Katie Russell each scored a goal and Ella Collins made 18 saves in the win.
Taylor Johnson scored six goals for North Cobb.
Hillgrove (2-0) will travel to Riverwood on Friday.
Walton 5, Milton 0: Eric Wagasky and Kevin Zhang each won matches 6-0, 6-0 to lead the Raiders to an opening win in Region 5AAAAAA play.
Francis Wang won 6-1, 6-0 and the doubles teams each won in straight sets. Crews Enochs and Raymond Zhang won 6-1, 6-1 and Rajul Das and Bailey Honig won 6-2, 6-2.
Walton (3-0, 1-0) will host Woodstock on Thursday.
Pope 5, North Springs 0: Austin Bates won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to help lead the Greyhounds to a Region 7AAAAA victory.

Kell 3, Creekview 2: Steven Klausman scored a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles, providing the Longhorns with their clinching point in the Region 7AAAAA victory.
Ryan Rowedder added a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, while the No. 1 doubles team of Payton Nichols and Jackson Inman won 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Kell (2-2, 2-1) will host Sprayberry on Thursday.
Allatoona 5, Villa Rica 0: The Buccaneers dominated the Region 5AAAAA match, led by Kyle Geiss’ shutout at No. 3 singles.
Austin Spires and Michael Allen allowed two and one games in their respective singles matches, while the two doubles teams — Keenan Shaw and Justin Cumbie at No. 1, Zack Gibson and Victor Bellott at No. 2 — each allowed one game.
Allatoona (2-0, 2-0) will step out of region play today to travel to Pope.
Whitefield Academy 4, Christian Heritage 1: Bennett Shilling paced the Wolfpack’s Area 4A victory with an 8-0 singles victory.
Matthew Landry (8-6) and Justin Samples (8-4) completed the singles sweep, while the team of David Lemasters and Jay DeShong won 8-5.
Walton 5, Milton 0: Suzanne Zenoni, Emily Gaskins and the doubles team of Katie Riley with Johanna Keeline all won matches 6-0, 6-0 to lead the Lady Raiders to a Region 5AAAAAA opening victory.
Kristin O’Brien won her match 6-0, 6-2 and the team of Erica Bauer and Sophia Guldberg won 6-0, 6-1.
Walton (3-0, 1-0) will host Starr’s Mill today.
Allatoona 5, Villa Rica 0: Kennedy Craig, Ali Whitley and Haley Proctor lost a combined six games as they swept the singles matches for the Lady Buccaners en route to a Region 5AAAAA victory.
Craig won 6-2, 6-0, Whitley 6-2, 6-0 and Proctor 6-0, 6-2.
Melanie Whitley and Lauren Lees won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles and Marysia Larosa and Erin Neves won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.
Allatoona (2-0, 2-0) will host Pope today.
Pope 3, North Springs 2: Eliza-Lee Barnes rallied for a three-set win at No. 3 singles, helping the Lady Grehounds to the Region 7AAAAA victory.
After losing the first set, Barnes came back to win the match 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Nisha Detchprohm won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while the No. 1 doubles team of Meghan Matsumoto and Lindsay Roberts won 6-2, 6-0.
Whitefield Academy 4, Christian Heritage 1: The Lady Wolfpack swept the singles points to get the Area 4A victory.
Rachel Hicks (8-0), Kerry Anna Lemasters (8-4) and Meghan Schwartzkopf (8-3) were complemented by an 8-0 win for the doubles team of Annie Sickling and Caroline Holliday.
