Nell Adcox, 88, of Marietta, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 16th at 2pm in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home with Dr. Don Mason, Dr. Al Southerland, and Chaplain Bill Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Ridge Memorial Park in Kennesaw. Mr. and Mrs. Adcox were one of the founding families of Piedmont Baptist Church. During her many years at Piedmont Baptist Church, she was the president of XYZs senior group. In recent years, she was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church where she was the president of the “Young In Heart” senior group. Mrs. Adcox earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Jacksonville State University. She taught school for 40 years, beginning her career in DeKalb County, Alabama. They relocated to Marietta when her husband was hired by Lockheed Martin. She then taught at Marietta City Schools where she was selected as a Teacher of the Year in 1961. She moved to Cobb County Schools where she taught one year at Elizabeth Elementary prior to the opening of Bells Ferry Elementary in the 1960s. She retired in 1986. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, Georgia Alpha Pi for 51 years and was the only surviving founding member. Her ADK sisters will serve as honorary pallbearers. She is survived by her husband, Davis Clint Adcox; daughters, Dr. Ann Gazell and Rebecca Martin-Duff, both of Canton; son, Dr. Bill Adcox, of Peachtree City; sister, Anne Rodgers, of Chickamauga; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 15, from 1-3pm and 4-6pm at Marietta Funeral Home, 915 Piedmont Road, Marietta, GA 30066. Online condolences may be expressed at
