The Cobb Chamber of Commerce presented its 2014 Health Hero Award to two recipients at its First Monday Breakfast, sponsored by WellStar, on Feb. 3 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The award recognized the outstanding accomplishments of one individual and one organization that have made significant impacts on the health of the Cobb County community.

The award, designed by Lillie Glassblowers, was presented to the winners by Dr. Cris Eaton-Welsh, the 2014 Chairwoman of the Health and Wellness Committee and last year’s Health Hero Award recipient. With a record number of well-qualified nominations, the Cobb Chamber honored the achievements of two noteworthy recipients who have each made remarkable strides toward a healthier community.

The individual 2014 Health Hero Award was presented to Dr. Jack Kennedy of Cobb and Douglas Public Health. Dr. Kennedy’s dedication and willingness to serve sets him apart as a leader and community activist. Along with his 17 years of service as a general surgeon, he was instrumental as founding CEO in the launch of Good Samaritan Health Clinic in Cobb. He also played a key role in the launch of Cobb 2020 and Cobb Access Health, which are initiatives committed to providing primary health care services to uninsured Cobb County residents.
