Deal has been working to make amends for the state's poor response. He's apologized and announced the formation of a task force to develop recommendations on how the state can be better prepared next time.
Deal told the Westlake High educators and staff Tuesday that "last week was a tough week for a lot of folks," and praised them for working together. School cafeteria manager Henry Smith says he appreciated the governor's visit.
Deal declined to talk about the future of the state's emergency management chief, who has faced criticism for not raising storm concerns earlier.
