KENNESAW — For the second time in less than a week, Kennesaw State University Athletics has entered into a multi-year sponsorship agreement.

Monday, Kennesaw State Athletic Director Vaughn Williams announced that Superior Plumbing will be contributing $1.5 million in 10 equal installments to the KSU Athletic Department.

Jay Cunningham, president and owner of Superior Plumbing, said the partnership with KSU isn’t just the latest deal with a local sports team for his organization, but something that is an opportunity to help out a neighbor.

“Ten years ago, we started to look at sports as a partner for Superior Plumbing,” said Cunningham, who has entered Superior Pluming into other sponsorship deals with the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, and the now departed Atlanta Thrashers. “But this is cooler. It’s a lot more personal. This is like I’m home.”

In return for the sponsorship, Superior Plumbing will be given naming rights to the Loge Section — a tiered picnic area — in the southwest corner of Fifth Third Bank Stadium. In addition, Superior Plumbing will be known as the “Official Plumber of KSU Athletics.”

The company will receive additional signage at the KSU Convocation Center, Bailey Park and Stillman Stadium along with advertising in game programs, on KSU television and radio broadcasts and on the athletic department’s official website,

While the sponsorship is the first official partnership with the athletic department, it is far from the first deal Superior has taken part in with Kennesaw State.

It was one of the main sponsors of the first football game to be played at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, last year’s matchup between North Cobb and Kennesaw Mountain in their annual “Civil War Classic,” and during the university’s Halloween celebration, “Owl-O’Ween,” Superior sponsored a large hot-air balloon.

Superior Plumbing is also a sponsor for nearly every Cobb County High School.

“We are proud to have Superior Plumbing as a partner,” KSU president Dan Papp said. “Their commitment to the community has made a tremendous impact and we value their support of Kennesaw State and our athletic department.”

For Kennesaw State athletics, Superior Plumbing is the third major sponsorship deal entered into within the last year, and it brings the total sponsorship donations to $9.25 million over the next 15 years.

In February 2013, Fifth Third Bank secured naming rights to then KSU Stadium with a $5 million donation over 10 years. And only a week ago, WellStar Health System pledged $2.75 million over 15 years.

“This is what’s good about this whole thing,” Williams said. “People believe in what’s happening here at Kennesaw State.”
